London Bars

  • A delicious Serbian dessert made of dough, jam, and walnuts. Delicious and soft, it melts in your mouth. It is very easy to prepare and is ready quickly. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: baking pan 32×23 cm, simple, total time: 60 min.

1 Crust:

  • 250 g of softened butter

  • 150 g of sugar

  • 5 egg yolks at room temperature

  • 1 Tablespoon of grated lemon

  • 1 vanilla aroma ampule

  • 375 g of flour


  • 5 Tablespoons of apricot jam or whatever you have

2 Crusts:

  • 5 egg whites

  • 200 g of sugar

  • 150 g of walnuts

  • 50 g of finely chopped walnuts


First Bark:

  1. Beat softened butter with sugar, beat until you get a smooth and glossy mixture, then add lemon peel, vanilla, and egg yolks piece by piece. At the end, add the flour gradually and continue to beat until you get a good combined mixture of all the ingredients.

  2. Pour the mixture into the tray and spread it evenly with the help of the bottom of the glass. Bake in a preheated oven at 175 °C for about 20 min.

Second Bark:

  1. Beat the egg whites and sugar until stiff, then gradually add the ground walnuts with a dropper.


  1. Take out the first crust that is partially baked, spread the jam you have on it, I used apricot jam. (you can use strawberries, raspberries, if you don't have this one).

  2. Then pour the second crust with the egg whites over the jam and spread it evenly with a spatula. After that, sprinkle with chopped large walnuts, you can have more than 50 grams.

  3. Bake the cake for another 20 minutes, at the same temperature. To control because I use with a fan, it will be finished even earlier.

  4. Cool the cake completely. Cut the bars into pieces with the help of a knife dipped in water, so that it is easier to cut and does not spoil the cake. Enjoy in bites!

The First Crust:

  • 140 g of margarine

  • 80 g of sugar

  • 4 egg yolks

  • 250 g of flour

  • 5 g of baking powder or half a bag

Coating: jam, any pomegranate, strawberry, apricot, raspberry

Second Crust:

  • 4 egg whites

  • 150 g of sugar

  • 150 g of walnuts — chopped, or coarsely blended, or a combination you like
