Tomato and Basil Sauce

  • Italian sauce, made from tomatoes and aromatic basil, serves as a topping for pasta and even for meatballs. It is very easy to prepare and is very simple with few ingredients. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: simple, total time: 60 min.
  • 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 large onion/ finely chopped

  • 2-4 garlic cloves/ crushed

  • 3 tins of chopped tomatoes/ 400 g

  • 1/2 tsp crushed chili flakes

  • 2 tsp balsamic vinegar

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • bunch of basil leaves, torn into small pieces

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Preparation:
  1. Heat the oil in a saucepan and gently cook the onion and garlic until softened.

  2. Stir in the tomatoes, chili flakes, vinegar, and sugar.

  3. Bring to a simmer and cook slowly for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

  4. Stir in the basil and season with salt and pepper.

  5. This sauce can be left chunky or blended in a food processor for a smooth sauce. Serve spooned overcooked pasta.
