A straightforward recipe for delightful homemade eggnog. After trying this recipe, purchasing store-bought alternatives will no longer be necessary. Follow the instructions below.
Ingredients: simple, total time: 30 min.
6 large egg yolks
100 g granulated sugar
220 ml heavy whipping cream
470 ml of milk
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
pinch of salt
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
ground cinnamon/ for topping
1 tsp alcohol/ optional — bourbon, brandy
Preparation:
In a deep bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar until the mixture is light and creamy.
In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the cream, milk, nutmeg, and salt, stirring constantly until well incorporated.
Add a spoonful of the hot milk to the egg mixture, stirring until combined. Repeat this process, stirring again, until the eggs are fully incorporated.
Remove the saucepan from the heat, stir until combined, and then return it to the stove.
Whisk continuously for about a minute, until the mixture slightly thickens. It will thicken further as it cools.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and alcohol, if desired.
Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
Refrigerate for 1 hour to chill.
For a completely smooth consistency, blend the entire mixture in a blender with 1-2 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg and a dollop of fresh whipped cream, if desired.
Enjoy!
NOTE:
For a smaller quantity, adjust the ingredients accordingly.
Refrigerate the eggnog and consume within 3 to 4 days.
