## Traditional Recipe for Salčići

  • This recipe for Salčići is much simpler than the original recipe. It will take you about half an hour to work with the dough with breaks and immediately after that you shape them and put them in the oven. If you have a dough machine, it will go very smoothly and quickly! You can use jam, or any cream of your choice for the filling. This is a Serbian traditional dessert that is present on the eve of all holidays and that children adore. Follow the recipe.

Ingredients : simple, total time: 90 min.
  • 500 g flour

  • 250 g pork fat

  • 1 egg

  • 100 ml milk

  • 1/2 grated lemon zest

  • 1 Tbsp white vinegar

  • pinch of salt

  • plum or apricot jam

  • powdered sugar for sprinkle

Preparation:
  1. In a deep bowl, combine the flour, salt, egg, milk and vinegar, and grated lemon zest and knead into a smooth dough.

  2. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread 1/3 of the fat, then fold it into three parts. Let it rest for 15 minutes, repeat this process twice more, each time spreading with fat and folding.

  3. When the dough is ready, roll it out and cut into rectangles.

  4. Put a teaspoon of jam in each and fold.

  5. Arrange on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C until golden brown, about 20-25 min, depends of your oven.

  6. While the rolls are still warm, roll them in powdered sugar or sprinkle them generously on top.

  • Keep the remaining sauce at room temperature, covered with plastic wrap, for up to 5-7 days.
