Chia Fresco Mexican Drink
Updated: Oct 24
Chia fresco is a refreshing and hydrating Mexican lemonade, popular in Mexico and Central America, especially during summer. It combines water, freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice, a sweetener (such as brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup), and chia seeds, which act as detoxifiers and energy boosters. Variations include using coconut water, green tea, or herbal teas with citrus juice, and adding fresh fruit pieces or purée like strawberries, blueberries, mango, pineapple, or pomegranate.
Ingredients: for 2 serving, simple
For ice fruit cubes
a small mold for ice cubes
2 oranges, freshly squeezed juice
a few leaves of fresh mint
For Chia Fresco drink:
2 glasses of water (can also be non-carbonated mineral water)
1 orange, freshly squeezed juice
sweetener on request (I have a little brown sugar)
a couple of leaves of fresh mint
ice fruit cubes (prepared earlier, for serving)
orange fetishes (for decoration)
Preparation:
Prepare ice fruit cubes the day before.
Squeeze the orange juice and arrange it in ice buckets; put two small leaves of fresh mint and some chia seeds in each cube
Put the bowl with the juice in the freezer overnight.
Put 2 glasses of water and freshly squeezed juice of 1 orange, some finely chopped fresh mint leaves, and a couple of ice fruit cubes in a shaker.
Shake everything well in a shaker, then add sweetener as desired and chia seeds, and shake everything well again.
Pour the resulting drink into glasses and then put in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to cool well and for the chia seeds to gel (to swell)
Serve chia fresco with ice fruit cubes, and decorate with orange fettuccine.
