Cooked Lentils
Updated: Oct 31
Lentils are an excellent dietary supplement. Remarkably, one teaspoon of lentils contains only 14 calories, making them an ideal choice for those planning a diet. Lentils are also a rich source of easily digestible fiber, which aids digestion and promotes fullness. Nutritionally, dried lentils contain 60 g of carbohydrates, 26 g of protein, 1 g of fat, and 10 g of water.
Nutrition Lentils
They are also rich in vitamins B1 and B9, as well as minerals such as magnesium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, zinc, and potassium. The high nutritional value of lentils underscores their status as a healthy food that can significantly benefit your health. Lentils have been shown to lower blood cholesterol levels, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease. Their fiber supports heart health, while magnesium supports blood circulation. Regular consumption of lentils aids in better carbohydrate transport in the intestines and throughout the body, stabilizes blood sugar levels, and is effective in combating anemia.
Conclusion
Below is a simple and delicious recipe for cooked lentils. It can be served as an appetizer with steak or enjoyed on its own. Lentils pair well with cooked meats such as chicken, ribs, Carniolan sausages, or Zampone. Please follow the recipe provided.
Ingredients: simple, total time: 45 min., 3 servings
500 g of lentils, canned and already cooked
4 Tbsp of vegetable oil
1 onion, finely chopped
1/2 leek, finely chopped
2 bay leaves
1 carrot, finely chopped
1/2 tsp dry spice / Vegeta
300 ml of vegetable broth
little water as needed
1 full tsp coriander
salt and pepper to taste
Spray
3 Tbsp of vegetable oil
2-3 tsp cayenne pepper
2 Tbsp of flour for dusting
Preparation:
Prepare all the ingredients in the description above.
Combine the oil over a moderate heat in a deep, medium saucepan. Then add chopped onion; fry until soft. Then add leeks, carrots, bay leaves, and mix well. Season with dry seasoning, salt, pepper, and coriander. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, adding a little broth. After the elapsed time, add the lentils to cook for 10 minutes, then add the rest of the vegetable broth. Add a little water as needed. When the lentils are almost done, make a spray.
Spray
Heat the oil in a small, deep saucepan, pour in the flour, reduce the heat if necessary, and wait for it to turn to a light brown color, then add the ground red pepper and stir well. Cook for a couple of minutes 1-2 and pour over the lentils. The spray must be a nice brownish-reddish color. Add a little vegetable soup to remove all the dust from the saucepan. Control the taste and seasoning. Stir in the lentils and cook for another 10-15 minutes.
Buon appetito!
"May your kitchen always be filled with wonderful aromas, your table with good food, and your heart with the joy of sharing" ☕❤️🌹
NOTE:
If you want to make it thicker, add less water or vegetable broth. If you want to avoid flour, then put more onions and simmer a little longer with the addition of vegetable broth.
If you like it with the addition of tomato sauce and potatoes, see the recipe here.
Keep the rest of the food covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
