A Delightful and Complete Lunch for 2-4 People
  • This meal is not only simple and delicious but also a wonderful way to bring family and friends together around the dining table. The recipe I am sharing is reminiscent of the way my mother used to prepare fasue schnitzels, an iconic dish in our household that fills the air with an irresistible aroma of xsksvjuca, making it difficult to resist. The combination of flavors and textures creates a truly delightful experience for everyone involved.

Ingredients for the Schnitzels
  • To create these mouthwatering fasue schnitzels, you will need a selection of ingredients that are easy to find and often already in your pantry. Start with minced meat, which can be beef, pork, or a mix of both, depending on your preference. The choice of meat will influence the flavor and juiciness of the schnitzels. Next, finely chop an onion and a few cloves of garlic, as these aromatics will add depth and richness to the dish. For binding the mixture together, you will need a piece of bread or breadcrumbs; the latter is often preferred as it provides a nice texture. Additionally, don’t forget to season the mixture with various spices, like salt and pepper to taste, along with Vegeta seasoning for a unique flavor profile. Ground pepper will add a hint of warmth, while freshly chopped parsley will contribute a burst of freshness. For moisture, incorporate a little milk or water, which will help keep the schnitzels tender and juicy during cooking.

Preparing the Mashed Potatoes
  • Accompanying the schnitzels is a classic side of creamy mashed potatoes, which perfectly complements the savory flavors of the meat. For this, you will need 4 large boiled potatoes, ideally starchy varieties like Russet or Yukon Gold, as they yield a fluffier mash. After boiling, mash the potatoes until smooth, incorporating generous amounts of butter, which adds richness and a velvety texture. Season with salt to enhance the flavor, and add a splash of milk to achieve the desired creaminess.

Enhancing the Presentation
  • To elevate the presentation of this delightful meal, consider adding neoatsvika di stance carrots, which provide a vibrant splash of color to your plate. Their natural sweetness pairs beautifully with the savory schnitzels and creamy mashed potatoes. However, feel free to get creative with your vegetable choices; you can also include a medley of other colorful vegetables such as steamed broccoli, sautéed spinach, roasted or pickled peppers, fried eggplant, or grilled zucchini. These additions not only enhance the visual appeal of the dish but also contribute additional nutrients and flavors, making the meal more wholesome.

A Meal to Remember
  • Be sure to try this wonderful lunch; it is a heartfelt recipe that is sure to delight your family members. The combination of the crispy schnitzels, creamy mashed potatoes, and colorful vegetables will create a memorable dining experience. As you gather around the table, the delightful aroma and beautiful presentation will set the stage for a meal filled with laughter, stories, and shared memories. This is more than just a lunch; it is a celebration of family, tradition, and the joy of good food. Enjoy every bite!

Ingredients: simple, total time: 90 min., 4-6 servings
  • 500 g of minced meat/ beef or mixed

  • 1 head of onion/ grated

  • 3 medium cloves of garlic/ minced

  • 2 small eggs

  • 1 slice of old bread, soaked in a little milk or water/ or 2-3 Tbsp of breadcrumbs

  • 1 teaspoon dry spice, Vegeta

  • 1 teaspoon of ground sweet paprika

  • salt and black ground pepper to taste

  • 2 Tbsp of seed oil

  • a little parsley leaf, if desired/ finely chopped

Preparation:

Schnitzel mixture:

  1. Incorporate the schnitzel mixture:

  2. In a large bowl, mix the minced meat, finely chopped or ground onion, garlic, eggs, and bread that has been previously soaked in milk or water and thoroughly drained. Add paprika, salt, pepper, dry seasoning, and breadcrumbs if desired.

  3. Thoroughly knead the mixture by hand. Using rubber gloves is an option; I prefer hygienic rubber gloves.

Forming the steaks:

  1. Mold the mixture into balls and gently flatten them into oval-shaped cutlets.

  2. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring there is some space between each cutlet.

  3. Combine the oil with a small amount of sweet ground pepper and apply it to the tops of the cutlets. This will enhance their color and create a lightly browned crust.

Baking:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and bake the steaks for approximately 35–45 minutes, adjusting for thickness.

  2. At the halfway point, gently turn the steaks to ensure even browning.

  3. The steaks are done when they are thoroughly browned and fully cooked in the center.

Serving:

  1. Accompany the stuffed schnitzels with mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, rice, or a seasonal salad.

  2. They are also complemented well by a mushroom sauce or a homemade tomato sauce.

Buon appetito!

NOTE:

Tips and Advice:

  • Avoid excessive use of breadcrumbs, as they can result in dry meat.

  • If using beef, consider adding more finely grated onion or a tablespoon or two of water to the mixture.

  • For softer steaks, allow the mixture to rest in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes before shaping.

  • Avoid overbaking once they are cooked, as this can cause a loss of juiciness.

  • Instead of regular milk or water for bread dipping, you can use mineral water.

  • You may substitute red onion for regular onion.

  • These fashir steaks are convenient due to their preparation with minimal oil.

  • Moisten the baking paper and drain it thoroughly to ensure the steaks cook properly.

  • I took a portion of the mixture, shaped it into balls, and then gently flattened them to resemble patties.

  • I prepared mashed potatoes and carrots before baking the fasir schnitzels. The recipes will be provided in the column.

  • When flipping the steaks, ensure they are coated with the remaining mixture of ground red paprika and oil.

  • I prepared the mixture a day in advance and allowed it to rest in the refrigerator overnight. This approach enhances the flavor, as it allows the spices to be fully absorbed, and also saves a considerable amount of time.

  • If you like, you can make a white weed dill sauce or a tomato sauce to top these fashir schnitzels.

  • In this recipe, I prepared carrots by stewing them in butter and a small amount of water, seasoning with salt, pepper, and cumin to enhance the flavor. I completed the dish with a touch of lemon juice and incorporated dried parsley towards the end. For the complete recipe, please refer to the provided link.

Storage:

  • Store leftover food in the refrigerator, either covered or wrapped in aluminum foil, for a maximum of two days.
