When it comes to delightful treats that capture the essence of Canada, few things can compare to biscuits shaped like the iconic Canadian maple leaf. These biscuits are not only visually appealing but also offer a rich, soft, and juicy experience with every bite. The combination of buttery biscuits and sweet maple cream filling creates a perfect harmony of flavors that is sure to please anyone who tries them.
Ingredients You'll Need
To create these delightful Canadian leaf-shaped biscuits, you will need the following ingredients:
- For the Biscuits:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- For the Maple Cream Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough:
Begin by creaming the softened butter and granulated sugar together in a large mixing bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy. This process typically takes about 3-5 minutes. Next, add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
2. Combine Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually incorporate the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring until the dough comes together.
3. Chill the Dough:
Once the dough is mixed, wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Chilling the dough is crucial as it helps the biscuits maintain their shape while baking and enhances the overall texture.
4. Shape the Biscuits:
After the dough has chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use a maple leaf-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the biscuits, placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
5. Bake the Biscuits:
Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Keep a close eye on them to ensure they do not overbake. Once done, remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
Making the Maple Cream Filling
While the biscuits are cooling, you can prepare the maple cream filling. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until smooth. Then, pour in the pure maple syrup and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until the filling is light and fluffy.
Assemble Your Biscuits
Once the biscuits have cooled, take one biscuit and spread a generous amount of the maple cream filling on the flat side. Top it with another biscuit, pressing gently to create a sandwich. Repeat this process until all the biscuits are filled.
Enjoying Your Treats
These Canadian leaf-shaped biscuits with maple cream filling are perfect for any occasion, whether it's a cozy afternoon tea, a festive gathering, or simply a sweet treat to enjoy at home. Their delightful flavor and charming shape make them a wonderful addition to any dessert table. Plus, they are easy to make, allowing you to share a taste of Canada with family and friends without much hassle. Enjoy your baking adventure!

Dough
300 g of flour
1 tbsp baking powder
2 g pinch of salt
250 gr butter room temp.
200 g of sugar
220 g of brown sugar
1 larger egg
2 tsp maple syrup extract or maple syrup
For the Cream:
225 gr butter amb.temp.
345 g powdered sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp maple extract or syrup
1/4 syrup pure from maple dark
Preparation:
Combine the flour and baking powder in a medium-sized bowl.
In a separate, larger bowl, cream the butter for 30 seconds. Add the brown sugar and continue mixing for 5 minutes. Incorporate the egg and maple syrup or extract, mixing thoroughly.
Gradually incorporate the flour mixture into the butter mixture. As the dough becomes firm, use your hands to ensure it is smooth and well-combined. Once the dough is ready and cohesive, divide it into two portions.
Wrap each portion in foil and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours.
In a deep bowl, beat the butter until it becomes foamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar one tablespoon at a time, followed by the maple extract or syrup, stirring continuously until a smooth, lump-free cream is achieved.
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Roll out the dough to a thickness of 5 mm using a rolling pin. Use a mold to cut shapes resembling a Canadian leaf.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper and arrange the biscuits, ensuring a 2 cm gap between them.
Bake for 7-8 minutes.
Transfer the biscuits to a larger tray to cool.
Once cooled, apply the maple cream.
For added convenience, use a pastry bag to apply a small amount of cream on one biscuit and sandwich it with another.
