Chicken meat in Honey Butter Sauce

  • Chicken in honey butter sauce is a straightforward Chinese dish that can be prepared in just 35 minutes. It offers a light meal option that pairs well with rice or grilled vegetables. Simply follow the recipe.

Ingredients: simple, total time: 40 min. 4 serving
  • 4 Tbsp Oil for frying

  • 1 egg

  • 700 g chicken thighs/ cut into bites without bones or breast

  • 1/2 tsp each salt and black pepper

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder


Honey Butter Sauce:

  • 3 Tbsp butter/75g

  • 6 small cloves of garlic/ minced

  • 3 flat Tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tsp honey

  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds

  • 2 spring onions — green part/ finely chopped

Preparation:
  1. Gather all the ingredients as specified earlier.

  2. Rinse the meat, remove the skin, and separate it from the bones.

  3. Cut the meat into bite-sized pieces.

  4. In a bowl, combine the egg, salt, pepper, starch, and baking powder.

  5. Whisk the mixture thoroughly, then add the chicken pieces and coat them evenly.

  6. Heat the oil over medium heat.

  7. Once the oil is sufficiently hot, add the chicken pieces and fry for approximately 3-5 minutes until they are golden brown.

  8. Transfer the chicken to a colander using a slotted spoon, allowing it to drain well with a small pan placed underneath.

  9. Repeat the process with the remaining meat.

  10. After all the meat is cooked, return it to the pan and fry for an additional 1-2 minutes until well browned.

  11. Remove the chicken again with a slotted spoon and place it in a colander.

  12. Dispose of the oil and pat dry with kitchen paper.

  13. In the same pan, add the butter and allow it to melt over low to medium heat.

  14. Add the chopped garlic and stir.

  15. Once the garlic is fragrant, incorporate the soy sauce, brown sugar, and honey, mixing for about 30 seconds over low to medium heat.

  16. Add the chicken pieces to the sauce and mix thoroughly until the sauce thickens. Turn off the heat.

  17. Garnish with roasted sesame seeds and chopped spring onions.

  18. This chicken dish pairs well with rice or grilled vegetables with soy sauce.

  19. You may add a spicy element if desired.
