Imperial Bars

  • Imperial bars is a dessert that is made a lot in Serbia, and they are very tasty and suitable for New Year's and Easter days. Follow recipe.

Ingredients

Cake crust

  • 4 egg whites

  • 150 g of crystal sugar

  • 150 g of ground walnuts

  • 100 g of flour

  • 150 g of whipped margarine

The first fill

  • 4 egg yolks

  • 150 g of powdered sugar

The second fill

  • 220 g of ground walnuts

  • 100 ml of cold milk

  • 100 g of powdered sugar

  • 100 g of margarine

  • 2 pcs vanilla sugar or 2 Tablespoon

and more

  • a little ground walnuts

  • and apricot jam (optional)

Preparation:

1. Turn the oven to 220 °C. Line a 35 x 20 cm baking tray with baking paper or coat with oil and sprinkle with flour


1. Bark Cake crust:

  • Whisk the egg whites into a stiff batter, add the sugar and whisk well with the egg whites.

  • Previously kneaded mass.

  • Add to the whipped mass, also gently, previously well-beaten margarine.

  • Roll out the dough and bake for 15 minutes until it is baked, reduce to 180 °C and bake for another 15 minutes.

Fill 1:

  • Whisk the egg yolks with the sugar and pour them over the baked cake and return to the oven at 180 degrees to dry for ten minutes.

Fill 2:

  • Grind ground walnuts mixed with powdered sugar and vanilla sugar with cold milk and mix. Add whipped margarine and mix well.

  • Coat the cooled cake with another filling and decorate with ground walnuts.

  • Jam option: if you like the sour-sweet taste of the cake, be sure to coat the baked cake with melted apricot jam, then add the beaten egg yolks and return the cake to drying.
