Imperial Bars

  • Imperial bars is a dessert that is made a lot in Serbia, and they are very tasty and suitable for New Year's and Easter days. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: simple, total time: 60 min.

Cake crust:

  • 4 egg whites

  • 150 g of crystal sugar

  • 150 g of ground walnuts

  • 100 g of flour

  • 150 g of whipped margarine or butter

The first filling:

  • 4 egg yolks

  • 150 g of powdered sugar

The second filling:

  • 220 g of ground walnuts

  • 100 ml of cold milk

  • 100 g of powdered sugar

  • 100 g of margarine or butter

  • 2 bags vanilla sugar or 2 Tablespoon

and more

  • a little ground walnuts

  • and apricot jam (optional)

Preparation:

1. Turn the oven to 220 °C. Line a 35 × 20 cm baking tray with baking paper or coat with oil and sprinkle with flour.


Bark Cake crust:

  1. Whisk the egg whites into a stiff batter, add the sugar and whisk well with the egg whites.

  2. Previously kneaded mass.

  3. Add to the whipped mass, also gently, previously well-beaten margarine.

  4. Roll out the dough and bake for 15 minutes until it is baked, reduce to 180 °C and bake for another 15 minutes.

Fill 1:

  1. Whisk the egg yolks with the sugar and pour them over the baked cake and return to the oven at 180 °C to dry for 10 minutes.

Fill 2:

  1. Grind ground walnuts mixed with powdered sugar and vanilla sugar with cold milk and mix. Add whipped margarine and mix well.

  2. Coat the cooled cake with this filling and decorate with ground walnuts.

  3. Jam option: if you like the sour-sweet taste of the cake, be sure to coat the baked cake with melted apricot jam, then add the beaten egg yolks and return the cake to drying.
