Preparation:
  1. On a work surface, form a fountain with the flour, then add the egg, softened butter, sugar, a pinch of salt, brandy, grated lemon zest, and baking powder in the center.

  2. Begin kneading by gradually with adding the milk. Once the mixture has become homogeneous and non-sticky, create a ball, cover it with cling film, and put it to rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

  3. After the resting time, take the dough and roll it with a rolling pin or with the pasta machine into a 3/4 mm thin sheet.

  4. With a notched wheel, cut out medium-sized rectangles (12 × 8 cm) from the dough and in the center make 2 cuts equidistant from the longest side of the rectangle.

  5. Bring the peanut oil to temperature in an aluminum pan with high sides. Fry the chiacchiere, a few at a time, until golden brown on both sides.

  6. Once cooked, drain them on absorbent paper to dry them from excess oil.

  7. Sprinkle the chatter with powdered sugar and eat it hot.

  8. Carnival chiacchiere can also be baked in the oven. Just put them in a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake them at 180 °C in a static oven until they have reached a nice uniform browning.

Buon appetito!
