Kuglof

Updated: Mar 11

  • Very tasty and easy to make this kuglof, you can combine as you like candied, raisins, chopped chocolate, etc. Ideal for breakfast! Follow recipe.

Ingredients: simple, total time: 90 min.
  • 4 eggs/ room temp.

  • 250 g sugar

  • 250 g butter/ room temp.

  • 150 ml of milk

  • 2 Tbsp rum

  • 500 g of flour

  • 1 bag of baking powder/10 g

  • 100 g of candied fruit of your choice

  • lemon zest/ optional

  • orange peel/ optional

  • juice of one orange or lemon

  • 100 g of chocolate of your choice

Other:

  • a little bread crumbs for the mold

  • a little butter for the mold

  • optionally powdered sugar for sprinkling kuglof

Preparation:
  1. Beat the egg yolks and sugar well with a mixer until they turn white and smooth.

  2. Add the softened butter and mix well with the egg yolks

  3. Gradually add rum, milk, juice, and zest of lemon or orange

  4. Then add the flour, in which is mixed the baking powder

  5. Combine everything well and at the end lightly mix in the solid egg whites by hand, to which we have added a pinch of salt, candied fruit of your choice, and chocolate cut into small pieces.

  6. Grease the baking tin well with butter and sprinkle with bread crumbs so that the kuglof does not stick to it.

  7. Spread the kuglof mixture evenly over the mold and place it in a preheated oven.

  8. Bake the kuglof at a temperature of 150 °C for about 1 hour (maybe a few minutes more or less, i.e., depending on the oven and the size of the mold – mine is bigger) with constant checking!

  9. The kuglof is baked when there is nothing left on the toothpick, that we stick in the middle of the kuglof.

  10. Turn the baked kuglof on a plate and sprinkle with powdered sugar

  11. This is followed only by enjoyment. Buon appetito!
