Gnocchi in Sauce

Updated: Mar 10

  • Italian specialty gnocchi in tomato sauce, its fantastic aroma is given by basil and delicious tomato, which thickens during cooking. I often use the brand Mutti or Barilla, which are by far the most delicious sauces. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: simple, total time: 35 min., 4 servings
  • 500 g ready-made gnocchi

  • oil, salt, water

For Tomato Sauce:

  • 400 g tomato purée

  • 2 teaspoons dried basil

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 3 cloves of garlic/ finely chopped

  • 2–3 Tablespoons of olive oil

  • pinch of salt

  • ground black pepper to taste/ optional

  • 2 Tablespoon grated Parmesan Cheese/ or to taste

  • basil leaves for decoration

Preparation:
  1. Pour olive oil into the wok pan on low to moderate heat, when it heats up, fry the garlic until fragrant, pour over the tomato purée and stir occasionally. Cook about 15–20 minutes. Cook the sauce until it thickens and turns a nice red color.

  2. Then add dried basil, oregano, pinch of salt, and pepper if you like, leave to cook over low heat.

  3. During that time, (put gnocchi when the water boils) cook the gnocchi in salted water with a little oil, cook them until they float to the surface (approximately 3-4 minutes).

  4. Strain the gnocchi and put them in a bowl in which you will serve the gnocchi. Pour tomato sauce over it and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese, serve warm with basil leaves.

Buon appetito!

NOTE: If it's easier for you, you can put the gnocchi in a pan, and reduce heat. Then stir it with the sauce few seconds, also add grated Parmesan cheese, stir at the same time while the sauce is cooking, stir quickly and turn off the heat after 10 seconds. You can also combine diced bacon, but then don't add salt or pepper!
