Updated: Mar 9

  • This is how Serbian housewives make homemade bread, we call it -pogača. They are very tasty and are served warm. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: simple, total time: 90 min.
  • 200 ml lukewarm water

  • 12 g fresh yeast

  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar

  • 380 g flour type 400

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • a bit of oil (if you like more yellow color on this bread, use also 1 egg)

  • You can add whole wheat flour, cumin, sunflower, sesame if you like.

  1. Grind the yeast in lukewarm water and add half a teaspoon of sugar and mix

  2. After 10 minutes, knead all the flour and mix well with a spoon when you have combined the dough to some extent, start kneading the dough with your hands for about 10 min.

  3. Then add salt and mix with the dough. Sprinkle the flour on the work surface and roll out the dough.

  4. Knead the dough for another 5 minutes and form a ball of dough. Put the dough in a bowl to rise and cover it with a cloth and wait 30 min.

  5. Once the dough has risen, knead it briefly for 5 minutes and cover it in a bowl with nylon and wait for 15 min.

  6. Sprinkle a little flour on the dough. After the time has elapsed, place it in a deeper round pan, on which you have put baking paper. Stretch the dough into a round pan 30 cm, apply the oil with help of brush on the dough and cover with nylon, let it stand for 15 minutes.

  7. Then take a knife and make parallel lines and make lines crosswise like decoration. Bake in a preheated oven for 18 min. at 220 °C. After the bread is ready, cover it with a cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes. Serve warm.
