Twisted Rolls with Cinnamon

Updated: Feb 15

  • Wonderful dessert of sugar and cinnamon with the addition of raisins, easy preparation and quick dessert! The dough is fantastic and soft, a real treat. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: simple, total time: 75 min.

Dough ingredients:

  • 300 g of flour

  • 7 g of dry yeast or 15-20 g of fresh yeast

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 125 ml of warm milk

  • 30 g of melted butter

  • 1 egg yolk

  • pinch of salt

For coating the dough:

  • 50 g of softened butter

  • 3–4 Tablespoons of plain or brown sugar

  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon

  • at the request of raisins

Preparation:
  1. Put a teaspoon of sugar and yeast in warm milk, stir and let it rise 15 min.

  2. Put flour, a pinch of salt in a large mixing bowl, add the remaining yeast, egg yolk and melted butter and knead it all well until you get a smooth dough. The dough is a little on the hard side.

  3. Shape the kneaded dough into a ball and return it to the bowl, which you greased with oil, and coat a little dough with oil.

  4. Leave to stand in a warm place for about 60 minutes.

  5. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling, just briefly put the butter in the microwave or pan to soften it and mix the cinnamon and sugar in a special bowl.

  6. Knead the dough and, if desired, divide the dough into as many rolls as you want, I divided it into 2.

  7. Mix each ball once more and roll it into a rectangle about 1 cm thick.

  8. Coat the rectangle with butter first, then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and if you like raisins, add to taste. Wrap in a roll.

  9. Cut the roll in the middle with a sharp knife, but at the beginning leave about 3-4 cm uncut so that you can more easily wrap the dough in a braid.

  10. Roll out the dough by transferring one part over the other, making sure that the cut part is more pronounced to get these beautiful patterns.

  11. Twist the upper uncut part by hand and assemble it in a circle, so that you pull the ends under each other.

  12. Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper and allow rising while you preheat the oven to 200 °C.

  13. Coat with a little more cinnamon mixture and bake for about 30–35 minutes or until it starts to turn red, then reduce the temperature and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes at 180 °C.

  14. Baked pastries cool a little, sprinkle with powdered sugar or mix a little powdered sugar with milk or water to get a thick glaze and pour over and enjoy.

Buon appetito!
