Fennel au Gratin in the Oven with Bechamel Lena

Updated: Mar 6

  • Fennel is otherwise extremely healthy and full of vitamins, and it does not have a lot of calories, so it is very ideal as a dish for those who want to keep a diet. This is my way of preparing fennel in béchamel sauce from the oven, it is a fantastic recipe, and it is very quick and easy to prepare. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: simple, total time: 40 min. 4 servings
  • 1 kg fennel

  • 30 g butter

  • 300 g béchamel/white sauce

  • 50 g Parmesan cheese

  • sale and pepper to taste

Béchamel/white sauce:

  • 250 g milk

  • 25 g flour

  • 25 g butter

  • 1/2 salt

  • 1/2 Nutmeg (optional)

Preparation:
  1. Clean the fennel, remove the stalks and the hardest outer leaves, cut them into 8 wedges (my fennel were nice big) and wash them well under running water.

  2. Put some water in a pan, add salt and bring it to a boil, then cook the fennel for 10 minutes.

  3. Drain them well, put them in a pan and let them flavor with the butter, salt, and pepper for a few minutes. Arrange them in an ovenproof dish and sprinkle them with half the grated Parmesan.

  4. Prepare the béchamel (for the recipe you can find in category sauce), let it cool, pour it over the fennel and sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan.

  5. Put the pan in a preheated oven at 180 °C for 15 min. then operate the grill for 3 or 4 minutes to form a crust on the surface. Buon appetito!
