Griliash Cake with Hazelnuts

  • A beautiful and delicious Griliash Hazelnuts traditional Serbian cake is prepared in the following way, delicious and soft cake ideal for some celebration days. Simple and easy. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: medium, total time: 90 min. 20 servings

For Crust:

  • 12 eggs

  • 12 Tbsp crystal sugar

  • 6 Tbsp of flour

  • 270 g toasted grounded hazelnuts

For Filling:

  • 500 ml of milk

  • 10 Tbsp crystal sugar

  • 6 egg yolks

  • 8 Tbsp flour

  • 3 bags vanilla sugar/30 g total

  • 250 g margarine or butter

  • 4 Tbsp powdered sugar

For Grills Hazelnuts:

  • 200 g crystal sugar

  • 150 g roasted chopped coarsely hazelnuts


  • 3 bags of vanilla whipped cream

  • 350 ml of milk

and if you like to do it Chocolate glaze first:

  • 200 g of chocolate

  • 4 Tbsp oil



  1. Whisk 4 egg whites in solid snow. Gradually add sugar and stir until dissolved.

  2. Then add the egg yolks one by one and mix constantly, finally add 2 tablespoons of flour and 90 g of toasted ground hazelnuts.

  3. Combine all ingredients well.

  4. Serve this mass on a well-greased baking sheet and lined with baking paper. And bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 20 minutes. Use a toothpick to check if the crust is ready.

  5. When the crust is baked, leave it to cool, then divide it into 3 equal thicknesses of crust.


  1. Whisk the egg yolks with the vanilla sugar and sugar until the cream becomes a smooth, light mixture. Then gradually add flour and milk.

  2. Put all the mixture to cook in steam. When the filling is cooked and thickened, leave to cool.

  3. Meanwhile, whisk one margarine or butter with 4 Tablespoons of powdered sugar. When the cream has cooled, add the whipped margarine and mix again with a mixer.

  4. The cream must be compact, smooth, and shiny.

Griliash with Hazelnuts:

  1. When the sugar has melted and got the color of caramel, put the hazelnuts, stir and pour into an enamel bowl. Allow to cool. After that, grill the grinder on a meat grinder or in a super chopper.

Final procedure:

  1. Coat the first crust with 1/3 of hazelnut griliash.

  2. Apply 1/3 of the whipped cream over the griliash hazelnuts.

  3. Repeat the procedure 2 more times.

  4. Leave one handful griliash of hazelnuts, and sprinkle the cake on top.

And if you want for Topping

  • Whip the whipped cream with the milk if you like more OR

Chocolate Glaze:

  1. If you want chocolate glaze, then you will need 150 g of chocolate and 4Tbsp Oil. Melt it at a moderate temperature and pour over the top of the cake and on the side. Flatten the icing with a cake knife, then sprinkle with grilias hazelnuts. Buon appetiti!
