Turkish Delight Old Method

Updated: Mar 18

  • A Turkish old delicacy that has left its mark in Serbia. This recipe is the old way of making them. Our grandmothers used to prepare, and all the little things that make great things. Very juicy and soft, real treat with coffee. Follow recipe.

Ingredients: simple, total time: 20 min.
  • 1 kg of sugar cubes

  • 150 g of potato flour (or 250 g of density)

  • 125 g of walnuts

  • juice of half a lemon

  • vanilla or bergamot aroma

  • a little almond or plain oil to lubricate the tin

  • powdered sugar for rolling

Preparation:
  1. Put a 1 kg of sugar cubes (or ordinary) in the pot, pour 750 ml of water over it, and cook until it is as thick as sweet. It will take about 45 minutes.

  2. Separately stir in a bowl 150 g of potato flour or 250 g of density, with a liter of water.

  3. Remove the spin sugar from the heat, then pour in the dissolved flour (density) while stirring constantly. Return to the heat, then cook over low heat until the mass is cooked so that the lokum falls off the spoon (does not leak). This will take about 45 minutes, while stirring and being careful not to burn.

  4. Finally, add the juice of half a lemon, aroma and chopped walnuts to the mixture. Grease a square deep baking tray with almond oil, then pour in warm lokum, spread with a knife. Leave in a cool place to harden, about 24 hours.

  5. Cut the finished lokum into cubes and roll each cube into powdered sugar. Serve!

Buon appetito!
