Crazy Dough

Updated: Jul 5

Introducing a Versatile Homemade Dough
  • Welcome to the world of homemade baking, where we unveil a versatile dough that acts as the perfect foundation for a variety of delightful pastries. This extraordinary dough is not only suitable for sweet treats like doughnuts and rolls but also serves as an excellent base for savory options such as croissants and pizzas. Its adaptability makes it a must-have in any home baker's repertoire, allowing you to explore a wide range of culinary creations.

Preparation of the Dough
  • To prepare this remarkable dough, you have the option to knead it using either a dough machine or by hand, depending on your preference and the tools available in your kitchen. Kneading is a crucial step in developing the gluten structure, which ultimately contributes to the texture and elasticity of the dough. If you choose to knead by hand, make sure to work the dough on a clean, floured surface, pushing it away from you and folding it back over itself repeatedly until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  • Once you have thoroughly kneaded the dough, the next step is to place it in a deep bowl. This bowl should be large enough to accommodate the dough as it rises. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap; this is essential to prevent air exposure, which can dry out the dough and hinder its ability to rise properly. Allow the dough to rest and rise at room temperature for a period of 24 hours. This extended resting time not only enhances the flavor but also improves the texture, making your pastries even more delightful.

Storage and Usage
  • One of the great advantages of this dough is its storage capability. After the initial 24-hour resting period, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. This flexibility allows you to use portions of the dough as needed, making it convenient for spontaneous baking sessions or planned meals throughout the week. Simply take out a portion of the dough when you're ready to bake, allow it to come to room temperature, and then shape it according to your desired pastry.

A Cherished Family Recipe
  • This beloved recipe has been passed down through generations in my family, originating from my grandmother, who was known for her incredible baking skills. Each time I prepare this dough, I am reminded of the warm, comforting aromas that filled her kitchen, and the joy that came from sharing freshly baked goods with family and friends. It is not just a recipe; it is a connection to my heritage and a celebration of the love that goes into baking.

Let’s Create It Together
  • Now that you are familiar with the basics of this versatile dough, let’s embark on the journey of creating it together. Gather your ingredients and tools, and prepare to immerse yourself in the delightful process of baking. Follow the recipe step by step, and soon you will have a batch of dough that is ready to be transformed into delicious pastries that will impress everyone around you. Preparation:
  1. In a deep and wide container, add 2 spoons of dry yeast or a package of fresh yeast, 2 spoons of sugar, 2 spoons of flour and pour 250 ml warm milk, mix it all well and let it rest for 10 minutes.

  2. When the yeast has risen, add 400 ml of yogurt and 100 ml of oil, and 2 eggs, mix with a wire.

  3. After that, gradually add flour mixed with baking powder, and one spoon of salt, mix with a wire until it becomes thinner, and after pouring a larger amount of flour, start mixing the dough by hand.

  4. The dough should be sticky and stringy.

  5. When you have a sticky dough, cover the bowl and the dough with nylon foil, so that no air gets in.

  6. Refrigerate for 24 hours, covered.

  7. After the spinning time, take the amount of dough you need, transfer it to a bowl and leave it covered to rise for 2–3 hours, in a warm place.

  8. Since the dough is sticky, add flour to the surface as needed and roll out the dough by hand and with the help of a rolling pin to the thickness you need.
