A Wonderful and Simple Mediterranean Recipe for Baked Sea Bream
  • If you're looking to bring the vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean into your kitchen, this delightful recipe for baked sea bream is an excellent choice. Known for its tender and juicy flesh, sea bream is a popular fish in Mediterranean cuisine, celebrated not only for its taste but also for its versatility in pairing with various sides. This dish is not only easy to prepare but also offers a healthy option for dinner that is sure to impress your family and friends.

Ingredients Needed
  • To create this mouthwatering baked sea bream, you will need a handful of fresh and flavorful ingredients that are typically found in most kitchens. The star of the dish is, of course, the fish itself. Look for fresh sea bream, ideally from a local fish market or grocery store, where you can find it whole or filleted based on your preference.

In addition to the fish, you will require:

    - Lemon: Fresh lemons will provide the acidity and brightness that enhance the flavors of the fish.

    - White Wine: A splash of dry white wine adds depth and richness to the dish, complementing the natural flavors of the sea bream.

Fresh Herbs: Parsley and chives will add a burst of freshness. These herbs not only elevate the dish's presentation but also contribute aromatic qualities.

    - Garlic: A few cloves of minced garlic will infuse the fish with a savory essence that pairs beautifully with the other ingredients.

    - Spices: Common spices such as salt, pepper, and perhaps a hint of paprika or oregano can be used to season the fish, enhancing its natural flavors.

Side Dishes to Complement the Fish
  • When it comes to serving your baked sea bream, consider pairing it with sides that will round out the meal. Here are a few fantastic options:

    - Boiled Potatoes with Swiss Chard: This classic combination is both nutritious and satisfying. The potatoes can be boiled until tender and then tossed with sautéed Swiss chard, olive oil, and a sprinkle of salt for a simple yet delicious side.

    - French Fries: For a more indulgent option, crispy French fries can provide a delightful contrast to the tender fish. You may choose to prepare them in the oven for a healthier twist or fry them for a more traditional approach.

    - Yellow Rice: A fragrant yellow rice, often colored with saffron or turmeric, can add a beautiful hue to your plate and a subtle flavor that complements the baked sea bream wonderfully.

Cooking Instructions
  • To prepare this dish, start by preheating your oven to the appropriate temperature. While the oven heats, clean and prepare the sea bream, ensuring it is scaled and gutted if you are using a whole fish. Season the cavity of the fish with salt and pepper, and stuff it with slices of lemon, minced garlic, and a handful of fresh herbs.

Next, place the fish in a baking dish and drizzle it with olive oil and white wine. You can add additional lemon slices on top for extra flavor. Bake the fish in the preheated oven until it is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork, which generally takes about 20 to 25 minutes depending on the size of the fish.

Conclusion
  • Once your baked sea bream is ready, serve it hot alongside your choice of side dishes. The combination of juicy fish with the vibrant flavors of lemon and herbs, paired with your selected sides, will create a memorable Mediterranean dining experience. NOTE:
  • Double the ingredients for 4 people.

  • To make it easier to separate the bones from the meat of the fish, open the fish in half from the lower part of the stomach, this way you will separate the spine of the fish, but you will have even longer and thinner bones that are visible.

  • If you don't have dry white wine, you can spray with just water.

  • Keep the rest of the fish in the refrigerator for 1 day.
